The 2020 Kentucky Derby takes place this Saturday, Sept. 5 at 7:01 p.m. ET. Usually every year sports fans shift their attention to Louisville on the first Saturday in May for the Kentucky Derby. Unfortunately this year, due to the pandemic, the Derby was pushed back, and like many other sporting events, will be without fans.
At the end of the day, at least it is happening, so we have to take what we can get as sports fans. When it comes to the Derby itself, whether you are a horse expert or just betting online for fun, there is plenty of action to go around while you sip on your homemade mint julep.
My 2020 Kentucky Derby Picks:
Tiz the Law to win the Triple Crown + 150
I hate laying such heavy juice on Tiz the Law to win this race, so I’m going a little outside the box here. If you think he wins the Kentucky Derby, check your books to find his odds to win the Triple Crown instead. If he wins the Derby, the field at the next race will be weaker, which means he will be a heavy favorite to lock up the Triple Crown. Shop around for best lines, but again, if you think Tiz runs away at the Derby, it is better to get him at + money than to lay a ton of juice.

Ny Traffic (20-1)
Tiz the Law will be hard to beat, but if there is one horse that can pull off the upset, I like Ny Traffic, who finished second in the Haskell by a nose to Authentic. You are getting a horse at 20-1 that is right up there with Authentic who is going off at 8-1. Yes, Authentic has Bob Baffert as the trainer and jockey John Velazquez, but Ny traffic certainly looked like the better horse at the Haskell all the way until the very end.
If you are not up for the upset, I’d look into doing some exotics with both Tiz the Law and Ny Traffic for a nice payout.
I’m a huge fan of ESPN’s Chris Fallica when it comes to horse racing and he also likes NY Traffic, so that makes me like this Kentucky Derby pick even more.
