NFL Thursday Night Preview: Texans At Chiefs

NFL Thursday Night Preview: Texans At Chiefs

The day is finally here…FOOTBALL IS BACK, BABY! Tonight, we get the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs facing off against the dangerous Houston Texans to kick-off the season. I want to pick a side, but there are still a lot of unknowns this week, so I am laying off. After researching, the total intrigues me more, so that is what I will be betting on.

Chiefs-Texans over 54

Who wants to bet an under as your first NFL bet of the season? I know there is some sharp money on the under, but I’m going with a little bit of a chalky pick here with the over. But there is some method to my madness.

This season reminds me a little of the 2011 season when the lockout ended in late July. Week 1 of that season saw 12 games hit the over and 72% hit overs in weeks 1-2. It makes sense, as tackling and special teams will be sloppy. Offenses on the other hand will be able to dictate the flow of the game and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some really big plays tonight. Who better for big plays than the Chiefs and the Texans?

KC’s high-powered offense led by Patrick Mahomes is going to be able to move the ball against the Texans, who are missing one of their best corners. When it comes to chemistry, the Chiefs return their entire coaching staff and 20 of 22 starters, plus 85% of all snaps on both sides of the ball, so they should not miss a beat there.

The Texans also have some big weapons on their offensive side of the football starting with their QB Deshaun Watson. He always does well in an underdog role, especially in the spotlight, so I have no doubt he will put up some points tonight as well.

I could be totally wrong and both of these teams come out just rushing the football, but there are too many weapons on both sides of the ball for this to be a dull game. I also think the poor tackling will be a huge factor in Week 1.

I see this playing out as a 31-28 type of game, with some action early, so give me the over.
