NFL Week 10: Playoff Positioning Taking Shape

NFL Week 10: Playoff Positioning Taking Shape

The New Orleans Saints are marching in, the San Francisco 49ers are striking gold with a perfect season and the Kansas City Chiefs hope to ax the Tennessee Titans.  There is nothing but nail-biting football frenzy on tap for the weekend and, for many teams, NFL week 10 means go big or go home, with a loss resulting in slim hopes of a playoff run.  It all comes down to this – no pressure, of course.

NFL Week 10 Preview

The Green Bay Packers are going to face the Carolina Panthers in week 10, a team that has shown remarkable resilience this year in the NFL.  If Christian McCaffrey is healthy, he is going to prove to be a major source of Carolina’s success on Sunday as he closes in on the most yards from scrimmage in a single season – 2,509 set by Chris Johnson in 2009.

Despite a superb showing by quarterback Kyle Allen and an offense that includes McCaffrey and others, the Panthers have struggled on the other side of the ball.  This is where they could find themselves losing this weekend, especially as they have to play in Green Bay.  However, it’s going to be a close game and, if the defense steps up, the Panthers will win.  The Packers will prove to be slightly more organized, though, and the Panthers will fall just short.

The Chiefs take on the Titans in Tennessee and this is a crucial week 10 game for both NFL teams.  If the Chiefs win, the odds of them going to the playoffs are incredibly strong – even if they lose, there’s still a chance.  If the Titans win, they could slither into the playoffs, as long as a couple of other games fall just the right way.

It’s not looking good for the home team, though.  Patrick Mahomes will be back under center for the Chiefs and the MVP is going to be a major factor in the game.  The Titans have been able to improve their offense since the start of the season but, unfortunately, it was too little too late.  The Chiefs are going to easily take this one.

The Saints have improved significantly since starting the season, only dropping one game out of their last six.  Quarterback Drew Brees is back in, despite the overwhelming success of Teddy Bridgewater, and the team is on a serious run to the playoffs.  A win on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons will almost guarantee a spot, and a loss would still give them a future possibility.

There’s a very good chance that the Saints will clip the Falcons’ wings on Sunday in NFL week 10.  Their defense hasn’t been able to perform up to standards and most likely won’t be able to get the kinks worked out until after the season is over.  With home-field advantage, Brees under center and a strong defense, the Saints could only lose if they got sloppy, and that’s not going to happen.

There’s only one team left in the league this season that has a perfect record.  The 49ers are now 8-0 and have almost a guaranteed trip to the playoffs.  They’ll be taking on the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, and this is a key contest for both teams.

The Seahawks are 7-2 and are contenders for the playoffs, as well.  The Seahawks are showing an incredible agility on offense, even if it hasn’t been as strong on defense, and will be able to give the 49ers a difficult time.  Russell Wilson leads the league in touchdown passes, touchdown percentage, interception percentage and passer rating and he’s going to need every bit of his talent against the Niners defense.

However, with Richard Sherman in San Francisco’s secondary, Wilson’s ability is about to be put to a real test and it most likely won’t be enough.  The 49ers are on top to win across virtually every poll and there isn’t any reason to believe they won’t pull off another victory in NFL week 10.
