Padres Look to Continue Streak as the Cards Look to Put Brewers Away

There are several games on the schedule in MLB on Thursday, with several interesting matchups on tap. Here’s a look at a few of the exciting games coming up.

Cards and Brewers Clash In Series Finale

The St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers play the final game of their four-game series tonight at American Family Field. The Cardinals won the last two games and took the lead in the NL Central standings after last night’s victory. Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado both homered for St. Louis in the win.

The Brewers hope to avoid their third straight loss at home to fall two games behind St. Louis in the standings. The Cardinals lost the previous series on the road against the Boston Red Sox after taking three of four from the Pittsburgh Pirates at home. Milwaukee swept the Cincinnati Reds on the road in their last series after losing their previous four series in a row.

Dakota Hudson takes the mound for the Cards and is 5-3 with a 3.31 ERA in 70.2 innings pitched. He will be facing Jason Alexander, who is 1-0 with a 2.42 ERA and gets his fifth start of the season.

St. Louis wins tonight to take the series and extend their division lead.

Astros Take Hot Streak To Face Yankees

The Houston Astros hope to continue their recent success against New York teams as they travel to the Bronx to face the Yankees in the first of a four-game series tonight. These AL rivals are first in their respective divisions, with the Yankees leading the Blue Jays by 12 games in the AL East, while Houston has a ten-game margin between themselves and the Texas Rangers in the AL West.

The Astros swept the Mets in two games at home after taking the series from the White Sox and Rangers. New York has cooled down a bit after their recent nine-game winning streak but has won fourteen straight at home. They just took two of three games from the Tampa Bay Rays and haven’t lost a series since Chicago won two of three games against them a month ago.

Framber Valdez makes his 14th start of the year for Houston and is 7-3 with a 2.78 ERA. He’ll face Jameson Taillon, who is 8-1 with a 2.79 ERA for the Yankees so far this season.

Phillies and Padres Begin Series Tonight

The Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres meet for the second time this season and start a four-game series tonight at Petco Park. The Padres have won three straight and are tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers at the top of the NL West Division. The Phillies are 8.5 games behind the Mets in the NL East and trying to avoid their fourth straight loss. The last series between these two teams all resulted in shutouts for the loser, with the Padres winning two of three games.

The Phillies were just swept in two games against the Rangers, while San Diego is coming off a three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Ranger Suarez is 5-4 with a 4.43 ERA and will take the mound for the Phillies, while Joe Musgrove brings his 8-0 record and 1.59 ERA into tonight’s game for the Padres.
