Several MLB teams couldn’t wait to get a start on the action today and two games, as of this writing, are already underway. There are still plenty of games on the schedule, which means baseball fans and betting fans have a lot to look forward to.
Yankees Look to Sweep the Rays
The New York Yankees have already won two straight in a three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays and would like nothing more than to sweep. They have a chance to do it today and, with Gerrit Cole finding his mojo, it shouldn’t be difficult. He is, at 10-5 with a 2.74 ERA, right now the odds-on favorite to take the Cy Young Award in the American League, but needs to keep the momentum going if he doesn’t want to slip. The Rays may have a better record, at 60-42, but they’re not holding up against the Yankees.
The Yankees are in good shape for the sweep, despite a number of injuries. The Rays have lost three in a row and aren’t looking too hot. With a moneyline of -130, the Yankees are the best bet, but the Over/Under is as close to a lock as can be had in sports betting. At 7.5 (-110), taking the Under is the best way to go as an MLB bettor, with the Yankees seeing the Under hit in their last six games. Overall, across the last 11, the Under has won eight of the games for the Bronx Bombers.

The Cincinnati Reds (53-49) were all over the Chicago Cubs (50-53) last night, taking an 8-2 victory that found Joey Votto hitting two home runs for the second day in a row. He is only the ninth player in the club’s history to score an HR in five straight games, and his performance is giving the Reds a chance to pick up a wild card spot. However, that will only be possible if Cincinnati can continue to shine.
The Reds have now taken two straight against the Cubs and are in a good spot for the third today. Luis Castillo, with a 4.20 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP, will likely start and, although he started the season sluggish, has been able to bounce back. The Reds are getting -135 on the moneyline, with the Cubs sitting on +110, and the Over/Under is at 7.5. With the way the Reds are playing, they should continue their streak, and taking the Over (+100) is the way to go. The Over has hit eight times in the Cubs’ last 12 games and could tack on one more today.
Colorado Sluggish on the Road
The Colorado Rockies (57-46) are on their first game of a four-game series against the San Diego Padres (59-45) today, but it’s part of a ten-game road trip that isn’t giving them much of a breather. The Rockies are coming off a loss against the LA Angels yesterday, but had annihilated them on Tuesday, 12-3. The Padres saw some problems with the Oakland Athletics, but have consistently shown the ability to rebound from big losses.
The Padres are hosting today and are getting massive support from the books. The moneyline is at -275 in their favor to a distant +220 for the Rockies, and a win at home will go a long way with the crowd. Colorado has the worst performance on the road this year (11-38) and the Padres are second in terms of home wins. The spread takes a break from the usual 1.5 and is bumped to 2.5 because of the lines, but that might be a little too exaggerated – take the Rockies for security. The Over/Under is at 8 runs, but the Under (-105) is likely to prevail as the Rockies find difficulty at the plate.
