This Memorial Day features a full slate of games in MLB, with several important clashes starting this afternoon. Here’s a look at a few of the matchups on today’s schedule.
Padres and Cards Begin Three-Game Series
The San Diego Padres travel to Busch Stadium for their first game this season against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Padres are three games behind the Dodgers in the NL West standings and won their most recent series against the Pirates at home. St. Louis split their last series against the Milwaukee Brewers and still sits 3.5 games behind them for the lead in the NL Central.
This series also features two of the leading hitters in the National League. Manny Machado is the offensive leader for San Diego, batting .357 with eight homers and 27 RBIs. However, Paul Goldschmidt is the Cardinals’ best weapon at the plate, hitting .352 with ten home runs and 40 RBIs, which is third in the Majors.

Mets Look To Extend Home Streak vs. Nationals
The Washington Nationals and New York Mets begin a three-game series tonight at Citi Field, with the home team seeking their third straight win overall and fifth in a row at home. The Nats won three out of four in their last series at Nationals Park against the Colorado Rockies, while the Mets completed a three-game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies last night at home.

He’s 3-3 with a 3.55 ERA, while David Peterson takes the mound for New York. He brings a 2-0 record with a 2.16 ERA in 25 innings pitched.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers begin a three-game series tonight at Dodger Stadium. Pittsburgh took two of three games from LA at home a couple of weeks ago and hopes to improve on their fourth-place standing in the NL Central, ten games behind the Milwaukee Brewers. The Dodgers are coming off a ten-game road trip where they finished 8-2 after a recent four-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks and are currently the hottest team in the National League.
Zach Thompson will make his ninth start tonight but hasn’t performed as well as he’d hoped this season. He’s 2-4 with a 5.50 ERA in eight starts for the Pirates. He gave up four runs and seven hits in three innings in his last game against the Rockies which resulted in a no-decision.
The Dodgers’ Walker Buehler takes the mound for Los Angeles and is tied for first in the league with a 6-1 record. He’s holding a 2.91 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 52.2 innings.
The Dodgers will get the win at home to extend their win streak.
