Tuesday marks the start of the MLB Division Series, as teams move one step closer to playing for the pennant in their respective leagues. Here’s how the teams match up before the start of today’s action.
Phillies Face Braves In Game 1
The Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves face off in the first game of their series at Truist Park. The Phillies finished third in the NL East and are coming off a sweep of the second-place Mets in two games in the Wild Card round. They finished 14 games behind the Braves in the standings and are making their first playoff appearance since 2010.
Atlanta won the NL East after coming from 10.5 games behind at the end of the regular season to steal the title from the New York Mets. It was their fifth straight division championship as they went 78-34 since the start of June after a slow start. Their pitching rotation will be fresh for this series after getting a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

The Braves win to take the early series lead.
Astros Host Mariners To Open Series
The Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros begin their AL Division Series at Minute Maid Park this afternoon. Seattle finished 16 games behind the Astros in the AL West standings and is making their first postseason appearance since 2001, when they won a record 116 games in the regular season.
Houston clinched a playoff spot weeks before the end of the regular season and has done an excellent job limiting the innings of the starting pitchers to prepare for the postseason. They had the second-best home record in the league and have tons of playoff experience.
Logan Gilbert (13-6, 3.20 ERA) takes the mound for Seattle versus Justin Verlander (18-4, 1.75 ERA) for Houston.

Division Winners Battle as Cleveland Travels To New York
The Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees prepare to battle in Game 1 of their series at Yankee Stadium. Cleveland won the AL Central Division and is coming off a sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays in two games in the first round. They also are the hottest team in the postseason, with a 26-4 record in their last 30 games.
The Yankees should be fresh after resting for five days. They are 20-10 in their last 30 games and had a rough stretch after the All-Star break that they were able to overcome. New York ended the regular season leading the Majors in home runs, were second in scoring, and their bullpen had the third-lowest ERA in baseball.
Cal Quantrill (15-5, 3.38 ERA) starts in Game 1 for Cleveland, while the Yankees send veteran Gerrit Cole (13-8, 3.50 ERA) to the mound.

Padres Look To End Dodgers’ Dominance
The San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers play Game 1 of their NL Division Series tonight at Dodger Stadium. The Padres beat the Mets in three games to advance to the divisional round but will have a much more significant challenge against the Dodgers, who were 14-5 against them in the regular season and outscored them 109-47. San Diego lost two of three against LA at home in their most recent matchup.
The Dodgers finished the season with a 111-51 record and were clearly the best team in the National League in the regular season. They snapped a three-game losing streak in their final game of the season against the Colorado Rockies but should be well-rested and prepared to continue their outstanding play in the postseason.
Mike Clevinger (7-7, 4.33 ERA) of the Padres will go up against Julio Urias (17-7, 2.16 ERA) for the Dodgers in the series-opening game.
The Dodgers win with a strong performance from Urias.
