The weekend is gone, but the NBA gave us a Sunday full of action with a total of eight games. There were a couple of endings that didn’t follow SOP, but that’s why it’s always fun to watch hoops action on any level.
Pels Dig In For The Win
Despite the nice start the Boston Celtics had in the first two quarters, Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram sweated their shirts off and helped the New Orleans Pelicans achieve a victory the game went into overtime. Ingram managed to get 33 points by hitting a go-ahead 3-pointer with 33.3 seconds left in OT, and the Pelicans overcame the Celtics on Sunday night, 120-115.
24 of the 28 points from Williamson were scored after halftime, and he also added ten rebounds and four assists. The Pels avoided losing for the sixth time in seven games, and Josh Hart also contributed to the comeback, as he got 17 points and ten rebounds. For the Celtics, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown scored 32 and 25 points, respectively. As part of what’s coming next, the Pelicans will host the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, while the Celtics visit the Dallas Mavericks tomorrow.

On Sunday night, Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam matched their scoring after getting 23 points each as the Toronto Raptors rolled past the Philadelphia 76ers, 110-103. The Raptors have now gotten their fourth straight victory Sunday night, their best performance so far this season. In the final 14 minutes, Chris Boucher scored all of his 17 points and hit five 3-pointers over six minutes, which was insane. He said, “They got me open and I shot with confidence. Then when I made them, I felt good about taking the next one.”
For the 76ers, Ben Simmons got 28 points and nine rebounds. Both teams are facing off once again on Tuesday night in Tampa. Toronto is still stuck playing its “home games” in the Sunshine State because of COVID-19.
The skidding Sacramento Kings were beaten by the Milwaukee Bucks, 128-115, on Sunday night. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton were on fire as they contributed to that victory and managed to score 38 and 32 points, respectively. Considered one of his season-best performances, Antetokounmpo added 18 rebounds and the Bucks sent Sacramento home with their seventh consecutive loss. It looks like Sacramento can’t handle the Bucks, as this is the ninth time in a row they lose against them.
Rookie guard Tyrese Haliburton paced the Kings with a total of 23 points, while his teammate DaQuan Jeffries added 18 points. Up next, the Kings visit the Brooklyn Nets, and the Bucks will host the Minnesota Timberwolves tomorrow.
Harden On The Warpath
The unstoppable James Harden scored 37 points and led the Nets to a victory against the LA Clippers, 112-108, last night, giving Brooklyn its season-best sixth victory in a row. The Nets are now finalizing a 5-0 trip, beating Phoenix, Sacramento, Golden State and both LA teams. This is their longest undefeated single trip in the entire franchise history.

The Hawks Pick Up A W Against Denver
Trae Young had an amazing Sunday night after getting a total of 35 points and 15 assists, while Clint Capela added 22 points and 11 rebounds. That made it easy for the Atlanta Hawks to beat the Denver Nuggets 123-115. For Denver, Jamal Murray, who was unstoppable on Friday when he got a career-high 50 points, scored 30 on this occasion. Monte Morris, Will Barton, and Nikola Jokic scored 15 points each. The Nuggets are getting ready to host Portland and the Hawks will visit Cleveland tomorrow.
Elsewhere, in a very tight game, the New York Knicks got a victory against the short-handed Minnesota Timberwolves (who fired Saunders afterward), 103-99 on Sunday night. A victory thanks to Nikola Vucevic after scoring 37 points and 11 rebounds was achieved by the Orlando Magic, who beat the Detroit Pistons 105-96. The Cleveland Cavaliers never managed to get past the Oklahoma City Thunder during the game and they lost against them 117-101 on Sunday night. This is the tenth consecutive loss for them.
