Week 2 presents us with a potential Monday Night shootout in the new stadium in Las Vegas, as the Raiders and New Orleans Saints have a game total of 48.5 with the road Saints favored by 5.5. Let’s look at some players to target in DraftKings’ $1.75 million six-man Showdown slate — with an entry fee of $10 and a first-place prize of $500,000 — and who to use in the critical Captain slot:
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS
ALVIN KAMARA, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS ($17,100): With Michael Thomas sidelined, Kamara becomes the main cog in the Saints’ offensive engine. Kamara had 12 rushes and eight targets in Week 1 against the Bucs and scored two touchdowns. He should have had three, if not for a replay overturn in the meaningless final seconds. He’s the most expensive play on the board, but there is enough value on the slate to make him affordable as the captain. His PPR potential is simply immense tonight.
JOSH JACOBS, LAS VEGAS RAIDERS ($14,400): If the Raiders are going to christen their new stadium with a win tonight, Jacobs is going to have to repeat his massive performance of a week ago. The Raiders will want to keep the ball out of Drew Brees and Kamara’s hands as much as possible, and that means ground and pound. Even if behind, do not expect the Raiders to abandon the run. Jacobs’ potential volume makes him an ideal captain play.

JARED COOK, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS ($12,000): Maybe not that courageous, since Cook has already been a productive receiver for Brees and is expected to be the top non-Kamara target in this game. His red zone work should make him a touchdown magnet tonight as the Raiders rightly focus their attention on Kamara. His slight discount makes fitting in other stars a bit easier.
LATAVIUS MURRAY, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS ($5,100): Did we say fit in the stars? You can really do that by plugging in the mispriced Murray into the captain slot. Murray carried the ball 15 times last week – three more carries than Kamara – and he will see goal-line usage. If he finds the endzone, he easily pays off his salary and leaves you with a build that is chock full of the top players on the slate, without having to play an iffy cheap player. Thomas’ absence has far-reaching implications for this offense, and an increased role for Murray figures to be one of them.
FLEX MEN
DREW BREES, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS ($10,600): If this game does shoot out as Vegas thinks it well, Brees is going to play a role as a facilitator for Kamara, Cook and Emmanuel Sanders.
HENRY RUGGS, LAS VEGAS RAIDERS ($6,800): There’s actually a lot no to like about Ruggs in this game: He’s coming off an injury sustained in Week 1 and he’s likely to draw the coverage of lockdown corner Marcus Lattimore. That will probably drive Ruggs’ ownership way down for a player who, despite the negatives, is going to be Derek Carr’s main target and has the ability to overcome and possible break the slate with a big game. You need to take risks in Showdown slates, and the upside here is enormous.
