As MLB spring training gets underway, prying eyes are watching to see what teams will produce. The Boston Red Sox are now geared up for the new season, but there is reportedly at least one piece missing to their puzzle, who will pitch? Counting the pitchers, it’s anticipated that there be five in the rotation in order to keep arms in good health.
Who Will Pitch For The Red Sox?
Right now, the team has Chris Sale, Eduardo Rodriguez, Nathan Eovaldi and Martin Perez, but no one else. Due in part to the team’s decision to trade away David Price as part of the deal with Mookie Betts, no one is quite sure what plans the Red Sox might have to fill the void.
However, Ian Browne of MLB.com thinks he has an idea, and says that either Ryan Weber or Josh Taylor could soon be added to the roster to pitch for the Red Sox. Both have been playing with Triple-A Pawtucket, Boston’s minor league team, and either has a strong possibility of being called up.

The New York Yankees don’t appear to have a rotation problem. Since they just picked up Gerrit Cole and Chad Green, the Yankees have given additional power that can contribute a great deal of talent to a bullpen that already includes Luis Severino and James Paxton. Masahiro Tanaka is in, as well, among the top pitchers, and this could be a great year for the Yankees. Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton are ready to go, and were two of the earliest to arrive as the team starts its second week of spring training.
That year is going to be threatened severely by the LA Dodgers if they get their way. The Dodgers have just invested a massive amount of money in Betts, and the team is essentially banking on him to help it return to the World Series after a 13-year drought. The 2018 American League (AL) MVP is expected to be a source of hitting power, and could, perhaps, provide some motivation to Joc Pederson and Ross Stripling. Both are back in training with the Dodgers after a trade to the LA Angels fell through.
The Texas Rangers conducted a head count, and everyone’s accounted for. The team is in Arizona for its spring training, and there are no stragglers. Yesterday was the first full day of training, and was primarily spent doing introductions and re-introductions, as well as oiling up the creaky joints and getting ready to hit the ground hard for the next month. Robinson Chirinos and Todd Frazier are ready to go, and Joey Gallo is looking to have an even better year with more consistent hitting.
Yoenis Cespedes of the New York Mets must still be pretty shaken up after encountering a wild boar at his ranch in Port St. Lucie, FL last May. He’s on hand for the club’s spring training, but appears to be somewhat more reserved than usual. Cespedes made it clear that he has no desire to talk to the media, saying, “Not today, not tomorrow, not at all year this year.” When asked why, he simply said it was because he doesn’t want to. He’s now in his last year with the team, but this doesn’t stop him from wanting to avoid the limelight.
The Minnesota Twins are now in full session, after pitchers and catchers were the first to start warming up last week. With the additions of third baseman Josh Donaldson, pitchers Rich Hill, Homer Bailey and Kenta Maeda, as well as a few others, the team hopes to do better than the AL Central title it took a season ago.

He is working out with the Mets as a non-roster invitee as he hopes to be picked up, and rumors began that he might quit to make a run for the XFL. Don’t bet on it, as the Heisman Trophy winner made it clear yesterday that he has no plans on swapping his baseball cleats for football cleats. He views the XFL as having a lot of potential, but asserts that baseball is still where he wants to be.
