The MLB Regular Season Is Closing In On the End

The MLB Regular Season Is Closing In On the End

MLB has a full schedule of games tonight as the race for the postseason heats up with about six more weeks left in the regular season. Here’s a look at some of the best matchups around the league on Wednesday.

Guardians Go For Third Straight Against Padres

The Cleveland Guardians and San Diego Padres face each other for the final time this season at Petco Park. Cleveland holds a slim three-game lead in the AL Central over the Minnesota Twins and has won ten of the last 14 games. They took a 3-1 victory against San Diego last night in the first of the two-game series.

The Padres are still chasing the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West standings and are now 18.5 games behind them in second place. Their offense has not been producing lately, as they’ve only managed nine runs in the last five games, where they are 2-3. They currently hold the final NL Wildcard position by 1.5 games over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Cal Quantrill takes the mound for the Guardians. He’s 9-5 with a 3.77 ERA and will face Blake Snell for the Padres, who is 5-6 with a 3.76 ERA this season.

San Diego wins a close one at home.

Blue Jays Face Red Sox In AL East Battle

The Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox clash for the second straight night at Fenway Park on Wednesday. Things have become interesting in the division since the Yankees became stuck in their worst season slump, with the Blue Jays now just 8.5 games behind the leader. They’re third behind the Tampa Bay Rays by a half-game and hold the second AL Wildcard position.

The Red Sox are 15.5 games out of first place and are at the bottom of the division standings. They have lost four of five games since taking series wins against the Yankees and Pirates and will try to avoid their third straight loss. Toronto took the series’ first game last night after rallying for eight runs in the third inning to put the game away early and take a 9-3 victory.

Jose Berrios is 9-5 with a 5.39 ERA for Toronto and gets the start tonight. He’ll oppose Bryan Bello for Boston, who will make his first start after coming off the 15-day disabled list. He’s 0-3 with an 8.47 ERA in 17 innings pitched.

Toronto wins for their fifth straight over Boston.

Brewers Face Dodgers in Series Finale

The Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers play the rubber match of their three-game series tonight at Dodger Stadium. This is the final time these teams will play in the regular season, with the series tied 3-3. The Brewers hope to take back the NL Central lead from the St. Louis Cardinals, who now lead them by 5.5 games in the standings. After shutting out the Dodgers on Monday night, they were dominated by Tony Gonsolin and the LA bullpen in last night’s contest, losing 10-1.

Los Angeles has cooled off a bit since their recent 12-game winning streak. Before winning their last series by sweeping the Miami Marlins, they split four games with the Brewers in Milwaukee and are 6-4 in their previous ten games. They also have the best home record in baseball at 44-16 and lead the Padres by 18.5 games in the NL West standings.

Adrian Houser brings a 4-8 record and 4.72 ERA into tonight’s matchup for the Brewers. The Dodgers counter with Andrew Heaney, who is 1-1 with a 1.77 ERA in eight starts.
